Columbia Loop and Cape Disappointment

Columbia River on the Washington Side

Yesterday, we took off early to tour and possibly catch in on some hikes on the east part of the Columbia Loop that is part of the Willamette Valley birding trail. So we headed towards the St. Helens and Scappoose areas. We arrived first at the Zellerbach Trail and then the Marine Park Trail. Both trails were not what we were expecting so we headed on towards the Columbia Botanical Gardens. None to say,  it was not what we were anticipating for a trail either and were quite disappointed. The Gardens is located in town and was overgrown. It looked like we would need a machete to work our way through the trail. So onward we went up hwy 30 towards hwy 433 and across to the Washington side, as neither of us had venture around this area. We were not disappointed. Gorgeous drive along Hwy 4 following the Columbia River.
On the Washington side of the Columbia River we discovered there was wildlife refuges, and estuaries. The Julia Butler Hansen Refuge for the Columbian White-Tailed Deer and the Columbian White-Tailed Deer National Wildlife Refuge just to name a couple. We slowly worked our way to llwaco Washington to tour around Cape Disappointment. A must see if you never have seen the light houses there and a great opportunity to learn about some WWII history as well.

*Some of these photos will be available for stock and/or available as prints for purchase at my DA and Zazzle Stores.

Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge

Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge

Woke up at 5:30 this morning to head to Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge is located just south of Salem, Oregon. Although this isn't as well maintain as Fernhill or Jack Bottom wetlands, it is great place for bird lovers to catch glimpses of a variety of songbirds, waterfowl, and birds of prey. There are also beaver, coyote, turtles, frogs, deer and variety of other wildlife that roam this refuge of fields, marshes, and ponds. In addition, there are several native and non-native wildflowers and shrubs throughout the wetlands.
There are several little trails and boardwalks to meander along and catch glimpses of wildlife, birds and wildflowers. There are a couple of blinds and overlooks to view wildlife and birds as well. The Eagle Marsh Kiosk and trail was my favorite out of all of the trails. As it was teeming with waterfowl and we even caught a glimpse of a beaver. Altogether we hiked approximately 3.9 miles along the dike trails and the Pintail/Egret Marsh Boardwalk.
Some of these new photos will be available soon as prints, cards and/or stock. Prints and cards will be available at my DA and Zazzle store and stock will be available at my website.

New Photo Manipulation, New Photos, and Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve

New Photomanipulation
I started working on this the night before Memorial Day, with everything that has been going on in this nation I wanted to show how much this country, and how much the men and women who serve in our military who have fought for our freedoms means to me. Stock cloud my own. Flag stock and military stock Pixabay and Can Stock.

Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve
Woke up at 5 am this morning and headed towards Jackson Wetlands Preserve in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve

A trail I have never hiked before until this morning. The trail is open from dusk to dawn and is a 725 acre wetland. It has a Nature Center, a Pollinator Garden, Waterwise Garden, several viewing areas, several marshes and a pond.

Bobcat Marsh
Pintail Pond

It is a stock and wildlife photographer's paradise.
Parts of the trail meanders along the Tualatin River, but most of the trail skirts along Kingfisher Marsh, Bobcat Marsh and Pintail Pond. The trail is approximately 2.9 + miles round-trip, depending on whether you decide to hike any of the extra viewing trail loops.
The flower and shrub species varies to native to non-native.

I will be having many of these pictures up for sale as prints or available as free stock on my website.

Sketch Fest, New Works and New Photos

Hey everybody it has been awhile since my last post. Sorry for the lack of posts. My mom has been battling lung and bone cancer since October of last year. And then the first of this year she also had kidney failure and heart failure. Praise God she is starting to do better.

Sketch Fest

So last weekend I got to participate in the 100th Sketch Fest.  I didn't have a whole lot of time to participate and I have to admit I am a bit rusty. The last time I participated was during the 90th Sketch Fest. Sketch Fest is a jam art session for 48 hours. You are only allowed 1 hour to complete a sketch. You have the option to sell the original and /or offer prints for sale of the art piece. It's a lot of fun and you get to participate with a wide variety of artistic levels from professional to amateur artists from all over the world and each one has their own unique style. If you are not an artist, you can submit prompts for artists to get their creative juices flowing or purchase art. The art piece below was done in colored pencil on brown card stock. The prompt was "Glittering Eyes". Not bad for someone who hasn't picked up colored pencils in months.

New Artworks

I have some new graphite pieces to share. I used Cretacolor Graphite for both of these commissions and Stonehenge Paper.

New Photo Manipulations

I got to dabble a little bit in college with photo manipulations in class, but I never really got to experiment with the variety of methods and techniques artists use. So, I am still in a learning process, but I want to start building up an on-line portfolio to show clients what I can do. So here are a few photo manipulations I have created so far.
